The rationale behind effective time management is to maximize its use in our daily lives and endeavors. A prime example of this is seen in the act of creation. God allocated each day for a specific act of creation, taking six days in total to complete His work. This structured approach gave a sense of order, and at the end, He accomplished a job well done. The scriptures state, “And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
IMPORTANCE OF WORKING WITH TIME
Here, we will explore the benefits of working effectively with time, including avoiding wastage of time, attaching time to work, and accomplishing tasks as they are due.
- Avoiding Wastage of Time: There is always a tendency to waste valuable time, often unconsciously. We may find ourselves spending excessive time on one task, neglecting others that are equally important. This results in unnecessary time wastage, which could have been avoided by the right application of time to our commitments or jobs. Time is too precious to waste, and once lost, it cannot be recovered. We should strive to make the most of it daily, both at work and at home.
- Attaching Time to Work: One of the key benefits of time management is the principle of time allocation to work. It involves assigning specific time slots to each task, especially when there are many tasks to be accomplished. This can be observed in the act of creation when God allocated each day to a particular act. It aligns with the scriptural saying, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.” Without this approach, you may find yourself racing against time, leading to rushed and subpar work. By applying this principle, you can accomplish all the tasks expected of you. For example, if a person has appointments in six different places within a limited timeframe, the best approach is to determine how much time to allocate to each appointment. This ensures the effective use of the limited time available.
- Accomplishing Tasks as Due: There is nothing more gratifying and satisfying than completing tasks on time. It shows that one values and adheres to time, which often results in well-done jobs. When you accomplish tasks at the right time, you free up time for other activities. In contrast, those who race against time to meet commitments rarely produce quality work.
The importance of working with time cannot be overstated. Therefore, in all our appointments or jobs, whether at home or work, we should be time-conscious and work within the allocated time. This approach adds great value to our work.
