Being at the top edge is about reaching the highest rank or position, where one is recognized as a master or a victor. The world has produced many notable names, but it’s not just about any name; it’s about names that have withstood the tests of time—names that awaken and inspire even the most dormant hearts.
Among the many heroes and achievers, there is one name that stands out. This individual once walked the earth and positively influenced countless lives during His time here. Even after His departure, His name has not faded with time but remains as fresh and impactful as ever. You may wonder who this man is. The answer is: Jesus Christ.
You might be surprised by my choice of hero, as many tend to confine Christ to religious boundaries. However, contrary to popular belief, Christ was a man whose influence transcended religious, social, and economic barriers. His achievements transformed a once savage world into one where love—a rare virtue—has been embraced by many. While some may choose bloodthirsty maniacs like Hitler, Mussolini, Julius Caesar, or Hannibal as their heroes, or perhaps some celebrated drug addicts and homosexuals in the music and entertainment industries, the choice is ultimately yours.
There are certain attributes in Christ that enabled Him to achieve His objectives in life. These are what I call the attributes of a man at the top edge.
ATTRIBUTES OF A MAN AT THE TOP EDGE
The attributes of a man at the top edge are: Decisiveness, Consistency, and Courage.
Decisiveness: Decisiveness means showing firmness and making conclusive decisions. In other words, it is the tenacity to adhere to a decision. It requires having a made-up mind. This was one of the attributes in Christ that distinguished Him. He knew what He needed to do. His ultimate goal was to accomplish the task ahead of Him—to do the will of His Father. He said, “I take joy in doing your will, my God” (Psalm 40:8, NIV). He made up His mind to accomplish all that was asked of Him, regardless of the odds. This is why His final words were, “It is finished” (John 19:30, NIV). He accomplished everything without leaving any stone unturned; He completed a perfect job. This is decisiveness—knowing what you want and where you are going.
Consistency: Consistency is the quality of being steadfast and unchanging. Christ knew the challenges that awaited Him because of the magnitude of His mission, yet He remained willing to do His Father’s will. In deep agony and total submission, He prayed, “Not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42, NIV). This demonstrates consistency in assignment and total commitment to a vision. There will always be a time of testing, a time that reveals whether you are committed to your cause or not. Your consistency during these times of testing proves your dedication to your vision.
Courage: The last attribute of Christ that every trailblazer must possess is courage. Courage is the ability to control fear when facing danger or pain. There is no one in the entire history of the human race who exemplifies this definition better than Christ. He pursued His mission in a way that astonished both the Jews and the Romans, including Pontius Pilate. There will come a time when you must decide whether to continue or abandon your mission. This is where courage is essential.
To become a man at the top edge in your field of endeavor, you must possess these attributes of Christ. Only then can you become a rare gem in our world.
